GTR 2 FIA GT Racing Game

GTR 2: FIA GT Racing Game| Direct Link | 1.50 GB

Extending the ground-breaking physics engine found in GTR, GTR 2 takes the thrill of driving to new heights. GTR 2, which is the official simulation of the FIA GT championship, features more than 140 high detailed cars and 34 different track-layouts in a hyper realistic racing world with breathtaking real-world-like effects. With a revolutionary Driving School Mode, GTR 2 will teach everybody how to become a real race driver.

Flash back to 1982 - the height of the arcade craze. In packed arcades across the world, gamers clamor for a chance to sit in the cockpit of the most realistic F1 simulation yet released to the public. In all its 128-color, pseudo-3D glory, Namco's Pole Position set the high water mark for auto racing games and paved the way for the genre we now call Racing Simulation. Would-be virtual Mario Andrettis wore the steering wheels smooth on those original arcade units, and the popularity of racing games prompted a wave of development which continues to this day.

GTR 2 is the follow-up to the GTR: FIA Racing, released to great acclaim in early 2005. With the original GTR, developer SimBin AG set out to model the popular Grand Touring (GT) variety of racing made popular by the FIA GT Championship series. By most accounts, SimBin succeeded in accurately capturing the world of GT racing as no developer had done before. Despite the attention to detail, GTR was not without its critics. Reviewers of the original title described the graphics engine as average and chided the AI for failing to resemble the reality of on-the-track driving.

The most stinging complaints were lodged against the game's online play, which many said was broken to a fault. That said, the core gameplay in GTR was praised by even the most hard-core racing fans. As the successor to such an acclaimed racing simulation, does GTR 2 improve on these shortcomings and add enough new features to deliver us one step closer to the perfect GT racing simulation?

Make no mistake about it: GTR 2 is the racer's racing simulation. From physics modelling so real you may get whiplash, to handling so authentic you'll end up in the grass in your first dozen or so starts, this game requires patience. Bridging the gap between simulation and reality, aspiring racers can even collect an analyze telemetry data using the very same MoTec software used by racing teams the world over. I've seen this software used first-hand in the pits of rally races, and it's the real deal.

While the learning curve can be steep, in part due to the skimpy documentation, the myriad of options provided allow novices to get in on the action. GTR 2 has an unparalleled ability to customize the racing experience, from scaling the various realism settings up or down, to adjusting the difficulty of the computer-controlled opponents. Through careful adjustment of the options, the game can play like an arcade racer or behave like a training simulator for a real weekend of racing. Graduated driving school exams span the gamut with regards to driving skills: from simpler concepts such as braking to more advanced manoeuvres like overtaking, there's a lesson for every level of racer.
